James developed a holistic approach to working with gang-involved youth in the Cross in the City program.  This program provides the “This Generation” group with mentoring, tutoring, counseling, community service supervision, service projects, Bible studies, job search training, fellowship events, music studio, and private evening high school. 

He founded Cross in the City, an outreach ministry to youth in gangs in the north side of Pasadena, Texas, in 1997. 

James worked for eight years as a church youth director.  He has over twenty years experience working with troubled youth and young adults in Houston’s east side, Chicago’s southwest side, Harris County Juvenile Detention Centers, Chicago’s Audy Home Detention Center, Cook County Jails, Ramsey 1 Administrative Segregation Unit, Al Price TYC, Giddings TYC, Gainesville TYC, and Harris County TYC’s Community Supervision. 

Rev. James R. Leslie received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M and a Master’s in Social Studies from the University of Houston.  He is accredited by the American Association of Christian Counselors, Therapon Institute, Glory Ministries, International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, and SAVE Guidance Association of America.

James has been married to his wonderful wife for seventeen  years and has three fantastic children, all living in LaPorte, Texas.
